Baby Girl Schorr's Nursery

I think it's safe to say that we are officially ready for Baby Girl to get here. Baby Girl has been showered by many of our wonderful family and friends and she has a closet full of clothes ready for her debut. Even better, her room is finally done!

A huge thanks to my wonderful husband, Brian, for putting up with all the trips to Home Goods, panic moments and for all the muscle he has put into the room. And we couldn't have done it without my wonderful parents and brother lifting, moving and helping get everything into place. Love you all and Baby Girl is so lucky to have you all :)

Now for the fun part, the pictures...

The one thing we had been waiting on to finish the room was a piece to go above the dresser / changing table. We tried a few things, tried to be crafty (and failed) and ended up finding a company to blow up one of my favorite images for a relatively low cost!

Music has always been a huge part of our lives and The Beatles have always meant a lot to both of us. One of my favorite photos of all time is an image of the Imagine Memorial in New York City where someone laid out white roses in a peace sign. It's a beautiful image and one I have always wanted to include somewhere in the house and it fit perfectly in Baby Girl's room. I'm pretty happy with the turnout.

We're excited to bring Baby Girl home and spend hours in her room watching her grow! She'll be here before we know it. Tequila is getting excited to meet his Baby Sister too.

Speaking of Tequila, he has had a bit of a rough day today. We had to go to the vet and get X-rays on his elbows because he has been in a bit of pain. Because of our Houdini history, we had to be there for the full sedation, the X-rays and had to help wake him up enough to take him home. He has some pretty bad arthritis in his elbows so we will be trying some new things to help him manage the pain. Luckily he got to spend the day with his Uncle Mat in his drowsy and sedated state. He's not 100% sure where he's at right now but the meds should be wearing off soon.

Handsome Big Brother - a little doped up

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the beautiful Spring we are having right now! We will keep you updated on Baby Girl's arrival as soon as we can!

XOXO,

Sara, Brian, Tequila and Baby Girl Schorr

Baby Girl Schorr Update: We are 35 weeks along now, about the size of a pineapple/coconut and at the last sonogram she was at 5 lbs. 7 oz. She is definitely dancing and wiggling a lot and continues to disco throughout the night. Fun fact, she has moved down enough to cause Mom's sciatica to act up and makes walking, sitting, standing and laying down a challenge. We've started going to the chiropractor to see if that will ease some of the pain, but good old ice and rest is the best medicine right now.

Baby Girl is already sassing it up for the camera and during our last ultrasound we caught her blowing kisses :)

A Fresh New Sunroom

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather we've been having. It's been fun running into neighbors we haven't seen since October and seeing their faces when they realize they're going to be getting a new neighbor soon :)

This post is a little delayed but we were able to pull the Sunroom remodel off in a little over a week, thanks to my wonderful, handy and patient husband! We had to patch several cracks, paint the walls, paint new trim, build some furniture and do a little shopping (my favorite part) but we made it just in time for the wonderful baby shower that Marcy and my mom threw for us at the house.

This would be the second remodel for this room, the first coming after the ceiling fell a few years ago. We used to live in this room before we redid the kitchen and main room because it was our family / TV room. Since we placed the TV over the fireplace, the room has been a bit neglected and Tequila staked his claim. Here's a quick peek at what it used to look like after the first remodel:

We even added a table

We wanted to turn the room into a duel purpose room - an office and a new playroom for Baby Girl Schorr. Baby toys/gear take up so much room so they needed a space dedicated for play.

The first thing we needed to tackle was the cracks in the wall. The sunroom used to be the original porch that they walled in and true to form, cut some corners and so the room settles differently than the rest of the house and is a little (or a lot) uneven in several areas. There was a huge crack that ran floor to ceiling and several near the windows that have come through over time. Brian grabbed the mud and started filling in the holes and sanding.

It really looked like a lot once the mud was up

A view of the other side with our new door
Once the mud was sanded and redone several times, it was time to paint. Since we were on a super tight deadline we started working on our next project before the paint began drying - the desk. There is a space between the old sliding doors and the old outside door that is an odd size and it was hard finding a desk to fit in the space, so we decided to build one.

We found plans on Ana White's site and cut the measurements down to fit the space. She makes it so easy to follow, we cut all of the pieces of wood down and then started tacking them together. It was freezing outside during this part so we did everything in our packed garage and I only got a few pictures once we moved everything inside to put together:

A view of the frame before adding the top

We flipped it over to attach the top
Then I started staining the desk while Brian put the last coat of paint on the walls upstairs and started attaching the new base boards. One suggestion for those staining furniture...be patient and wait to do it when it's nice out or when you can open up windows/doors to air out the house. Since I have had such horrible congestion this entire pregnancy, I couldn't smell the fumes at all until Brian came down almost choking and I realized I had burned my nostrils and the back of my throat. Whoops...that wasn't a fun couple of days.

While I was downstairs in all the fumes, Brian was able to get the upstairs in better shape. He cleaned up the windows and cut the baseboards to fit with the help of his new miter saw (his Christmas present). It was snowing outside so all of our projects were messy indoor ones, but we got through it.

New wall color and baseboards
The work zone - pretty nice saw, isn't it
We chose to go with Benjamin Moore's Goin' to the Chapel. We thought it would be a little more gray than it turned out, but we are still happy with it. The paint definitely lightens up the room a lot. After some clean up and some more caulk and paint, we had a blank slate to start with:

So much cleaner
We finally have trim around the door!
Instead of putting the window benches back up we decided to add a day bed that we found at IKEA. It is dual purpose, providing us a comfortable piece of furniture to lay around and read books with Baby Girl and it's an extra place for guests to stay as it pulls out to a queen size bed. Anyone that has ever bought anything at IKEA will know that the directions are not always as easy to follow, but we got it done and set up!

The boys enjoying their labors
Then it was time to add a little color with a comforter set we found at Home Goods. I don't think people quite realize my addiction to home goods, but it's pretty serious...and I definitely found my Home Goods Happy :)

A perfect place to relax
Tequila has already claimed his space
Once the stain dried on the table, we added poly and it was time to move the desk up to the room. We plied my little brother with Old Chicago to come help us move everything in and got everything set up.

A perfect fit, and an added touch with a new chair - Home Goods gets me

Another look
Then we added a small bookshelf to keep all of the Manus books in one space...we didn't have time to build one, so it was IKEA to the rescue.

New IKEA bookshelf
Then it was time to add the finishing touches...which couldn't have happened without another trip to Home Goods to find the perfect lamp for the space. (Another addiction - I love lamp!)

That's a good lookin' lamp

Added the bouncer and the Baby Girl's new swing
One last look at the room
We are pretty pleased with the turn out and we are already using the room a lot more than before. The best news - we got it all done just in time for the baby shower. I cannot say enough how lucky we are to have such amazing and wonderful people in our lives. It was so good to see everyone and show off all the changes we made to the house since our engagement party. Baby Girl was definitely spoiled and now has several sassy outfits and fun toys to choose from! A huge thank you to everyone that came and we can't wait for you all to meet Baby Girl!

And can we talk about the cookies...if you ever need cookies for a party or event, you need to call Icings by Ang. She is awesome and took pictures from our nursery and created these works of art:

Seriously awesome cookies - and they taste as good as they look!

I didn't get a chance to take many pictures because we were having too much fun so I am borrowing some from our hostesses!

The hostesses with the mostest(es)

I love these ladies!
We still have some finishing touches to add to Baby Girl's room so once they are complete we will share more pictures. For now we plan on taking it a little easy so we can start getting ready for Baby Girl's arrival. The countdown is on!

XOXO,

Sara, Brian, Tequila and Baby Girl Schorr

Baby Girl Schorr Update: We are 32 weeks and at our last ultrasound on Monday she was weighing in at 4.7 oz, right on schedule. She is rebelling against the theory that she should be sleeping 90-95% of the time like the books/websites say. Instead she likes to kick, punch, roll, wiggle and dance all day and all night. We will definitely be looking into gymnastics and karate when she gets older. Sleep is rare right now because we are especially active at night and have flipped upside down so that her head is sitting where it shouldn't be...hopefully she'll roll back around soon. She likes to punch or kick at Dad and Tequila when they are close and gets really excited when we share pineapple sorbet. We have about 8 more weeks to go and time is flying fast! Looking forward to meeting Baby Girl!

The Nursery: A Sneak Peek

Hope everyone has enjoyed 2015 so far! It's been awhile since our last post and s lot has happened since. With birthing classes. doctors appointments, ultrasounds, acupuncture appointments (yes, this happened) and a couple weeks of sickness, 2015 has already been a crazy year for us. Luckily Baby Girl Schorr is getting bigger and stronger everyday and already practicing for her gymnastics and karate lessons.

During one of our classes, we talked about the "nesting phase" in which Brian just laughed and mentioned that my "nesting phase" started well before we were even married :) We started working on the nursery in January and took it pretty slow (compared to some of our past projects). We decided to turn the old office into the nursery because it was the last room upstairs that hadn't been touched yet. We started off scraping the popcorn off the ceiling (I should clarify by "we" I mean Brian)...since I have had horrible congestion for the last several months I was quarantined from the room for a few days.

Here are a few before pictures:

Freshly scraped and sanded ceiling

Poor sad dark window with ugly blinds

A view of the closet - lots of dark brown

Tequila doesn't understand why we are messing with his room
Then we started painting all of the trim and windows...we no longer have any more dark trim upstairs!

Freshly painted trim and windows, testing the new paint color
I always like to test the paint color on the walls for a few days to make sure it's what I want and can view it in multiple lighting scenarios. Sticking with our tried and true Benjamin Moore paint, we chose to go with Rodeo, a gray-taupe color because we wanted to keep the background neutral and calming.

My pro (and handsome) painter

Here is a view from the doorway (Tequila is always supervising)

Love the color
Once we got the second coat of paint up, my handy man started working on the crown molding. I have to say that he is mastering the crown molding and this is the best room yet. With the help of my brother they tacked it all up and really finished off the room.

Then our awesome friends Zac & Ally came over and the boys brought up and put together the furniture while we got to play with their adorable son Cullen. Tequila was really good with him and completely worn out after they left and didn't move the rest of the weekend. Definitely great practice for the future! And even better, Ally totally rocks and let me borrow her maternity clothes so that I would be able to wear more than Brian's sweaters and yoga pants everyday :)

That is some good looking crown molding right there

Still not sure why we are messing with his room
Then we tackled the closet. After using a customized closet system in our room we decided to stick with what we knew best and used the same for Baby Girl's room.

New closet system installed
After the closet we got a call saying my favorite new piece was ready to be picked up...the glider! It is the most comfy piece and I love that we got to customize it with the fabric and lining of our choice. The next obvious step was to run up to Home Goods to look for a new pillow and sure enough, HG didn't disappoint.
The most comfy chair we own
The next step was adding the blinds, curtains and a few pieces of artwork we picked up along the way. We still have more to do and we will share finished pics once everything is up, but for now here is a sneak peek of some of our additions:

Had to throw in some pink :)
We're working on an art piece for the dresser and finding some fillers for the gallery wall. Plus we are painting the closet and entry doors.Once that wraps up we will be able to share more pics and relax.

Oh wait, did I say relax? Ha...since I can blame this one on my extra "nesting phase" of pregnancy I decided we needed to tackle the sun room and turn it into an office / playroom. And since we like to stress our timelines, I decided we needed to complete this project before our first baby shower next weekend (that we are having at our house so everyone can see the baby's room). Luckily I have a very patient and loving husband who is working on patching drywall as I am typing so we can start painting tomorrow. Will we make it in time? Of course...it's all about the drama :)

We'll share our updates on the Sun Room soon...

XOXO,

Sara, Brian, Tequila and Baby Girl Schorr

Baby Schorr Update: We are in the third trimester and the countdown is on! Baby Girl is 30 weeks along and getting bigger and stronger everyday. To say she is an active one would be an understatement and loves to squirm around and kick the most as Mom is trying to get to sleep. She is a night owl that packs quite a punch and loves to kick back at Daddy and her big brother Tequila whenever they get close. We've been battling a horrible cold over the last few weeks and running on little sleep so we are definitely getting prepped for future late nights. Other than that everything is looking good and she will be here before we know it!
