Bailey Jayne - 15 Months Old

What a fun summer so far! I can't believe it's winding down but we have been making the most of it. This past month was a busy one with a lot of family fun and full of adventures. But before we get into any of that, I want to give a big shout out to my awesome hubby for all that he does! And in big news, he is moving closer to home and accepted a position at the UMB on 87th Street! We love you!

Bailey is 15 months old today and we just got back from the Doctor's office. She is 21 lbs. 10 oz. and 30" tall and looking great. She is not a fan of the doctor and getting 2 shots today didn't help. Luckily we have a day of fun ahead that will take her mind off of it.

All smiles when we first got to the doctor's office...sadly it wouldn't last
Bailey has come out of her shell even more this month and she is quite the friendly girl. She is full of affection and has finally shared all the kisses and hugs she's been holding on to for Tequila with the rest of us. She will even go up and hug another Mom or child at the park or pool to say hello. She is very active and loves to run, jump, dance, swing, climb and get into just about everything. She is very helpful around the house and likes to clean up after herself (at times) and is Mommy's little helper. She is very independent and likes to do things for herself including eating, climbing up on things, getting dressed, trying to swim on her own, playing with her toys on her own and she loves to host parties for her toys in her princess tent where we often hear lots of giggling. She is full of sass but is sweet when she wants to be. Some days it seems that we are a 15 month old going on 13 year old, but then she'll snuggle up and all is forgotten. She is very talkative and is expanding her vocabulary to ball, "I sit", up and more. She is a smart cookie and understands a lot of words and will pick up items that you ask for, point to eyes, ears, nose, and mouth on herself, toys and Mommy and Daddy, and knows when she isn't supposed to be doing something and testing the limits to get a reaction. She also loves to sing songs, one of her favorites is Itsy, Bitsy Spider because she likes to do the hand gestures...

We had a lot of fun celebrating Independence Day with our little sparkler! We spent the day with Grandma and Grandpa cooking out and ended it at a BBQ with friends. Bailey loved watching the kids throw poppers and light sparklers. She made it all the way through the fireworks but passed out on the ride home. Overall it was a fun holiday!

We really liked the flags
This month Dad also took off a few days of work and we decided to enjoy a Staycation. We went to Kaleidoscope, the Mr. Potato Head Exhibit, Crown Center, Union Station, Science City...and that was all on the first day! We also headed over to Kill Creek Park Beach for a fun day on the lake. Bailey played with the big girls but we quickly got out when there was a snake spotting! We wrapped up the staycation with a trip to the Johnson County Museum and played at Kidscape and Bailey had so much fun watching all the big kids and interacting with them.

We also decided to go fishing early in the morning on one of our staycation days. We picked up Grandma and Grandpa and headed down to Hillsdale Lake. Since Bailey has already fished in the Gulf, she's an old pro, but she got to show Grandma and Grandpa her skills with her own fishing pole. It was hot and Tequila may have tangled up the lines a bit but all was not lost...Mom caught 2 little punkin' seeds!

And the second! (No it wasn't the same one!)

Bailey's favorite character (other than the Disney Princess' of course) is Curious George and she is really starting to embody some of his more rambunctious tendencies. We definitely have our hands full with this girl and if she follows in Mommy and Daddy's footsteps, we are in for it! The good news is that though we've had our fair share of bumps, bruises and goose eggs, we haven't had to make any trips to the ER. Plus our other favorite book is the No No, Yes Yes book so maybe we can learn a few things or two. Here are a few of Bailey's busted moments...most of them aren't captured because of Mom's cat-like reflexes.

Um, no
We love exploring with Dad's headlamp
Very curious
The only time we like to be in our car seat, when it's inside for cleaning
Yeah, that's not going to work
Um, no
Leaving a trail of toys in our dust
The only time we've ever sat in this is when Mom is trying to sell it
Not going to happen....though right before this, she said "I sit, I sit"
It was a little too quiet...
She's a little too proud of herself

Yep...this pretty much sums it up

Bailey is quite the Dancing Queen...and if there's a beat, you know she's going to shake it. She loves to mix up her moves now and is expanding her musical repertoire, but nothing gets us going these days quite like our Dog Guitar. I would say our day consists of 10% napping, 20% getting into things we shouldn't and the other 70% - Dancing!

We also visited some of our favorite stomping grounds...Wonderscope and Deanna Rose Farmstead. Each time we go, we discover new things and Bailey loves to play with the other kids and with all the neat toys!

We are quite the busy bee at the park and now that we can run, we run all over the place and climb up on everything. We love taking our bike out and going on walks with Tequila. We can't get enough of the outdoors!

Living the good life
Bailey loves her big brother so much. She loves to go to the dog park with him, take him on walks and most of all practice her hugs and kisses on him. He is still very tolerant and every once in awhile I will sneak a pic of their sweet moments...though as soon as the camera snaps, they quickly separate and pretend to go about their day. Bailey is so lucky to have such a sweet and protective big brother!

Always protecting her

A girl has got to eat! With all the playing Bailey does, she has to refuel. We are still breastfeeding but we love to eat at the table like a big kid. She is very independent and prefers to feed herself at the table with a fork and spoon...though the spoon is a little trickier, she is doing great at it. If only we could consume an entire meal without deciding to chuck a couple pieces to Tequila (especially with the foods he doesn't like) then we'd be golden! Bailey's current favorite foods are watermelon, avocados and peaches...she likes to pick them out at the Farmer's market or the store, and sometimes refuses to give them up!

With all the messes we make, we have found that cleaning up after ourselves is almost just as fun. We sure hope she continues to enjoy doing chores as much as she does now!

Grocery shopping with Dad
We love to sweep
Washing our own hair
Doing laundry
Doing dishes (just kidding...major teething pain and wooden spoons are awesome)
Cleaning the whisk...ok, teething again

With all that hard work, a girl has to cut loose and play! Bailey loves to play and we love to watch her imagination grow. With all the treasures we've found, her favorites have to be her animals and princesses.

Such a cutie

And all that play can sure wear a girl out...if only it would wear her out in the evenings. We have a tendency to get a little wired at night, so our little night owl has kept us up pretty late recently. But when she crashes, she crashes.

And last but not least, here are a few more of our favorite pics of little Miss Bailey. She is growing up so fast and we are so blessed to be her Mommy and Daddy so that we can watch her grow!

Thanks for taking a peek back at last month's adventure with us. Count your blessings and hug your loved ones tight...our thoughts and prayers are with the Olathe family that lost their little girl yesterday. Spread the love, not hate.

XOXO,

Sara, Brian, Bailey and Tequila
