Bailey Jayne - 12 Months Old

Happy Happy Birthday Bailey Jayne! You have brought so much love and joy to our lives and I can't believe we are already celebrating your one year birthday! We love watching you grow up and enjoy all the fun you bring each day.

Bailey Jayne - 12 Months Old
Bailey weighs in at 20 lbs. 4oz. and 28". We have her one year check up tomorrow which means a few shots, but luckily we'll have the rest of the day to continue the celebration!

Bailey in her favorite chair
Bailey loves to walk and explore on her own. She is a very independent and spirited child who loves nature and being outdoors. She is talking more and more these days, adding No and Ball into her repertoire. She loves making duck faces, shaking her head yes and no (ok, mostly no), clapping at everything, waving goodbye, showing off how big she is, sneaking around the house and getting out all her toys. She is quite the fashionista and loves to pick our her outfits and shoes (Dad is a little worried about her shoe habit already), she is a total girly girl but loves to get down and dirty. She loves playing with balls and will go and fetch one if you ask her to. She is very active - loves to slide, climb, swing and is learning to do somersaults. Bailey is a bit of a giggle box and loves laughing at her brother, with Mommy while we're dancing and at Daddy pretending to hurt himself. She is still a flirt and likes to follow the boys around. You have to be on your toes at all times with her because she loves to sneak off and get into everything she isn't supposed to but it is so fun chasing after her.

Hey shorty, it's your birthday, we're going to party like it's your birthday! And what a better way than with a smash cake! Earlier this month, we found these perfect Jenny Lind high chairs that were in need of some care and some paint and thought they would be perfect for a cake smash photo shoot. Mom made up a smash cake and we threw together a banner on the fly so we could get a quick shoot done before the storms rolled in. Bailey was a little dainty with the cake at first but then she got into it and had so much fun. Here are some of our favorite shots from her first cake smash:

When your spirited, sweet girl turns one, you know the celebration is going to start early and go way beyond the actual date...especially when we are a family that loves to celebrate! We started off by taking Miss Bailey to her favorite restaurant - T-Rex at the Legends so she could see her favorite dinosaurs. She had so much fun looking at everything, roaring and yelling with excitement, clapping along with all the Happy Birthdays...until it was directed at us. Luckily she recovered quickly and was back to her happy self as soon as the servers left our table. We will be celebrating all day today with Uncle Mat, Grandma and Grandpa then this weekend we have a party set up with both sets of Grandparents and Great Granny, then the following weekend we are having a Kentucky Derby Birthday Bash with all our friends! We'll share those pics in the next few weeks!

We are fortunate to live in an area with tons of things to do with little ones and this month we decided to check out Wonderscope, a Children's Museum in Shawnee. Bailey loved playing in the farm and market area, the tinker area and watching the scarves flow out of the air tunnels. We loved it so much we got a membership and look forward to playing all year long!

Our little flower child. We love to explore and spring brings so much more to discover. Bailey loves to pick flowers, play in the freshly mowed grass, dig in the sand and mud and pick up sticks. She is very curious and we love to watch her enjoy the outdoors as much as we do. We all may come in a little messy, but it's totally worth it. Our favorite at the moment - mulch...we can't get enough and stay out of it. If we're at a playground - we'd rather play with mulch. In someone's front yard - we're picking up your mulch. Restaurant? You better believe we'll be trying to take some with us. She may have a career in landscape in the future.

Now that Bailey is walking all over the place, we love to get out and enjoy the outdoors on walks and hikes. Bailey loves to meet new people and discover new things while we are out...whether it's on the trails near our house or at the baseball fields.

Bailey loves to dress up and pick out her own outfits, shoes and hair accessories. She loves shaking it in tutus and twirling in pretty dresses. If she is in the mood to wear a strawberry costume, she'll wear it...even if it makes everyone at the hardware store laugh!

So what if this is a Christmas outfit...it has a fun skirt

Did I mention how fortunate we are to live where we live? Another great thing about living in JoCo - the parks! There are so many to explore and we have found some of the greatest playgrounds in the area which is a good thing because this girl loves to play outside. We love to try out a new playground each week and revisit our favorites with Dad when he comes home. Bailey loves to swing, slide, climb and of course search for mulch!

Outdoor or indoors, playtime is essential in our house and we have a ton of toys thanks to our treasure hunts each week. We love to make music and sing karaoke, create safaris with our animals, read books, play with paper dolls, slide into the ball pit, play pillow mountain obstacle courses and ride our SmarTrike. We are also learning to do somersaults on our new tumbling mat and ride our new Barbie Power Wheels Jeep that we just scored!

One of our favorite new tricks is giving hugs and kisses...we have mastered the open mouth kiss and she shares the love as much as she can. Her favorite target - big brother Tequila. He allows it most times but has a tendency to run when he sees her pucker up!

Kissing Mother Goose
Sweet polar bear kisses
Very patient (and sweet) big brother
Speaking of Tequila, we love our big brother! She thinks he is hilarious when he runs around, chases the ball and whips her in the face with his tail. He has become very patient with her and she loves to follow him around the house, pet/pat him (working on nicely) and has even allowed her to sit on him a couple times before Mom and Dad could stop her. She loves to emulate him and has picked up some of his habits...trying to eat off the floor on her hands and knees, carrying toys around with her mouth, chasing after balls and our favorite - splashing in his water dish. He does enjoy the perks of having her around - more walks and a lot more table scraps are the best!

I still cannot believe our sweet baby girl is one already. From the first moment we saw her, it was love at first sight and our hearts have grown each day with her beautiful light. We have been so fortunate to exclusively breast feed and we have made it to the one year mark! We love watching her grow and wish time could slow down, but we are enjoying every minute of it. Happy Birthday baby girl, we love you so much!

XOXO,

Sara, Brian, Bailey and Tequila

And of course...more outtakes!

We didn't feel like staying in her chair
